More about the "drama" in Malaysia's political scene. I'm frankly disgusted with all these crap:

Quote:
By Leslie Lopez, The Straits Times

A HIGH-STAKES confrontation between Malaysia's Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim took a dramatic turn yesterday with both trading accusations over an alleged cover-up in the murder trial of a Mongolian woman.

The day of attacks and denials began just before noon when Datuk Seri Anwar produced a key witness in the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu who alleged that the police omitted vital information he provided in the case.

This included a damning claim by him that Datuk Seri Najib knew the dead woman and had sex with her.

Later in the evening, Mr Najib lashed back, insisting that a statutory declaration filed by the witness was a 'terrible lie, a malicious fabrication' to damage him.

It was, he said, a 'desperate attempt' by Mr Anwar to divert attention away from a police investigation against the former deputy premier that he had sodomised his former personal assistant.

'I want to state in the strongest terms that I never met or knew this Mongolian woman,' Mr Najib said, adding that he has refrained from commenting on the allegations because the trial, now in recess, was ongoing.

The claims by Mr Balasubramaniam Perumal, who was present at Mr Anwar's press conference, were in the statutory declaration, or sworn statement, he had filed. In it, he alleged that vital information he gave interrogators was suppressed during the murder trial.

Abdul Razak Baginda, a former political adviser to the Deputy Premier, is being tried with two others over the murder of the Mongolian woman.

He had hired Mr Balasubramaniam, a private investigator, just around the time of the murder in October 2006. The PI was at first arrested for the murder but later released. He is a declared supporter of Hindraf, a group fighting for Indian rights whose leaders are behind bars.

His declaration also stated that Abdul Razak showed him a text message reply Mr Najib sent to him after the political adviser was arrested. Mr Najib allegedly messaged Abdul Razak: 'I am seeing the IGP (Inspector-General of Police) at 11am today...matter will be solved...be cool.'

Mr Anwar, whose opposition alliance made big gains in the March 8 general election, said yesterday that Mr Najib had feared that he would use the murder case to trigger his downfall.

Mr Anwar has claimed that his alliance will take over the government soon because of defections of elected lawmakers to the opposition.

But he faced a setback last week when police said they were investigating allegations that he had sodomised a male personal assistant, a claim he has dismissed as 'sheer fabrication' and an attempt by those linked to Mr Najib to short-circuit his takeover bid.

In recent weeks, Mr Najib, who is also Defence Minister, has been forced to fend off allegations that his wife and two others he knew were involved in the murder and were at the crime scene.

The face-off between the two politicians took another sensational turn when Mr Najib yesterday admitted that he had met Mr Anwar's accuser, Mr Saiful Bukhari Azlan, days before he lodged his police report.

'He had come to see me and he was traumatised. He said he needed help,' said Mr Najib, who insisted that he never directed Mr Saiful to do anything, including filing the police report.

Asked whether he believed Mr Saiful, he said: 'I wouldn't dare say...I thought he looked genuine... he was afraid. His hands were cold.'

The day ended with Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi trying to quash widespread rumours about the government imposing emergency rule.

'The government is stable...Everything is under control,' he said.

i believe all these are meant to cover up his wrongdoings and to revive his waning popularity. if anyone cud have have been so popular with his REFORMASI campaign, he wudn't have to resort to becoming a US dog obediently lapping up at his master and cunningly replying 'Yes Sir' to bounce back from a losing battle that he intends to keep fighting when his efforts hav all been futile and not even gaining any ground. for a second there, you were bashing and lambasting the US over her reprehensible ways of dealing with muslim countries. the next second, u'd like the US to rally and shore up her support for you. this is nuthing but a FLIP FLOP. in case you're wondering, i meant MR. ANWAR IBRAHIM. and heck, his recent act didn't catch Mr. Bush's attention like Zimbabwe's Morgan Tsvangirai. a not so successful copycat heist pulled off by Mr. Anwar Ibrahim. glad he'd been sidelined. come on, ppl cud get bored with ur sorry and lousy not so pitiful story. not worth a fig.

wasn't he the former DPM supposedly tipped to replace then PM Tun Dr. Mahathir as our PM and also the one who banked on the plan to loan us to the IMF in 1998? oh and all of sudden, right after the humiliating sack from the DPM post, he became a godly figure and claimed the then government was tremendously corrupted when in fact, he'd been our DPM for the very government he claimed to be insanely corrupted for 5 DAMN years!! now this is another FLIP FLOP. anyone with a sane and sound mind wud hav this question flashing in their heads whether he had a share in the corruption counts since he was with the government before he was sacked. why wud he only reveal the truth after being sacked? this kind of sad *** liar wud come up with all sorts of sorry *** excuses.

it always gets me boiled up when talking bout this. his country of residence has really ticked off my anger. on this website http://www.crisisgroup.org/home/index.cfm?id=4238, he is said to also be residing in washington D.C with his handgloves-wearing wife and 6 children. this further exemplifies the fact that he has a strong connection with the US(remember how the then US VP Al Gore backed him?)and none other than a gerbil to an american ape doo doo.

REFORMASI huh? what? to reform Malaysia so that this country cud be the jumping board for the US to attack other sovereign nations in the region? give it up already...how much did Mr. Al Gore pay you, Mr. Anwar Ibrahim? dwelling in the past won't do u good. you are history. look at you old poke Anwar Ibrahim, you're old and all puckered like a bulldog already. you might wanna consider retirement and a botox shot and get a life will ya?.

^That's a pretty scary allegation. TBH neither party is looking good to me. Ugh.

Another chapter in the drama:
Quote:

Malaysia hunts for sex claim man

Malaysian police have launched an international hunt for a private investigator who accused a top politician of sexual misconduct.

Balasubramaniam Perumal vanished after retracting a claim that Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak had sex with a Mongolian woman later found murdered.

Mr Najib, who is locked in a political struggle with rival Anwar Ibrahim, has denied any link to the woman.

Police believe the missing investigator is in hiding.

The murdered woman, Altantuya Shaariibuu, worked as a model. Her remains were found outside the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur in October 2006.

She had been shot twice in the head and her remains blown up with plastic explosives.

Abdul Razak Baginda, a political advisor to Mr Najib, is on trial accused of abetting her killing.

Last Thursday, Mr Balasubramaniam caused a sensation by stating in a sworn declaration that he had been told Mr Najib had had sex with Ms Shaariibuu.

'Terrible lie'

Mr Najib denied any link to the model at a news conference the same day.

The claims were, he said, "a terrible lie, a malicious fabrication" designed to tarnish his image.

On Friday, Mr Balasubramaniam announced he was withdrawing his allegation completely, saying it had been made under duress. He then disappeared along with his wife and children.

Malaysian police have now asked Interpol to assist in finding the missing investigator.

"I give a guarantee of his safety if he comes to meet us and he is free to bring a lawyer to the meeting," Malaysian Criminal Investigation Department director Bakri Zinin told reporters on Sunday.

"The police in the country have been put on alert to find him. We have informed Interpol... as well as the police in neighbouring countries."

Mr Najib is seen as a strong contender to succeed Malaysia's Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi as the country's next leader.

His chief rival, opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, has also been accused of sexual misconduct in a separate case which has gripped the mainly Muslim country.

Having served six years in prison for sodomy and corruption, then seen the sodomy count overturned, Mr Anwar has been accused again of having sex with a young man.

He denies the charge and says he is the victim of a conspiracy.

This is going to be pretty dramatic. I hope nothing violent will escalate from this.

Neither party appeals to me, I agree. This is a really creepy & turbulent time for us. I never expected stuff like Altantunya &, oh gee, another sodomy case! It's crazy! I wonder how this will play out, seriously, it's going to be a time to remember...

You could tell your points without sounding so aggressive, IMO Smile

I just browsed around, this is pretty recent & interesting...

Quote:
If you have a Royal Commission basically dominated by independent people, even by some pro-opposition figures and yet come out with a verdict that say, well we cant find any evidence that Najib is involved, then Najibs name would be cleared, only in that way.

Radio Singapore International

Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi says that the public is fed up with the political bickering that is going on in the country.

Mr Abdullah has pledged to give more priority to more pressing issues like rising fuel and food prices.

He was commenting on Malaysias Sunday Star front-page report on the reaction of the people over the political exchanges in the past few weeks.

The leader of the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition was also perturbed by the continuing demonstrations organized by the opposition.

So, have Malaysians really had enough of the political uncertainty in the country?

A question Saifulbahri Ismail asked Wong Chin Huat (WCH), political analyst from Malaysias Monash University :

WCH : Yes, I think many Malaysians do feel like they do want to see the dust settle down after elections. They do want to see politicians focus on their work rather than ongoing political campaign, but having said that we must see that some of the issues are actually real concerns. Whatever position you take, I think price hike is a real concern because of the cut in petroleum subsidies. Similarly, I think people feel very much concern with the case of Altantuya murder, as well as credibility of judiciary, the police and other public institutions. And what Malaysians want, is that they do want to see politicians getting on with their business of running the country, and many people feel very puzzled, and I can understand that many people want to see and say lets finish it, either direction is fine.

Do you think a quick fix solution is necessary at this point to end the political turmoil once and for all?

WCH : I think that kind of preference for a quick fix is dangerous because we might not get the best result. What we need today, as far as I see is for Abdullah and Anwar to sit down and say, lets negotiate an agenda reform. There should be open dialogue between both sides to discuss whats the agenda forward now. I think Barisan Nasional need to recognize the new political reality and stop suppressing the opposition state governments now. And on the other hand, Anwar Ibrahim should and Pakatan Rakyat should respect the legitimate right to rule the country. Both sides should respect this and get down to business, and then you can say after two years or three years and say, lets call for elections and let the people decide.

Now to what extent do you think that these accusations and counter-accusations and political drama in Malaysia have further polarized the country?

WCH : I dont think the country is more polarized than before the election. Many people regardless of what their preference would be now want to see a stronger government. The best solution is not for any of them, either the Barisan Nasional or Pakatan Rakyat to come in as a powerful dominant government, but I think what we need to is actually some form of national consensus, of how this country should move on. Recognizing a more equal share of power between both sides of the divide.

With the current attention being focused on Najib and Anwar, do you think it has given some breathing space for Prime Minister Abdullah?

Yes, I do think so. I dont think Umno can go into the next elections with the Prime Minister in waiting tainted by accusations as such, whether they are founded or not. So, unfortunately I think the greatest liability to the party may not be Abdullah anymore.

Is there any way for Najib to perhaps regain his credibility?

Perhaps, except if you have a Royal Commission (of Inquiry) that is seen as completely independent headed by some people who are no where close to the Barisan Nasional at all. If you have a Royal Commission basically dominated by independent people, even by some pro-opposition figures and yet come out with a verdict that say, well we cant find any evidence that Najib is involved, then Najibs name would be cleared, only in that way.

^sue me then eh??... Laughing Laughing Laughing

dun u think all this only benefits one person who's none other than Khairy? in fact, the drama has been well played out since they really had us all going there.

and now, after going thru your article, i can't help but wonder 'bout the mastermind's motives. i can't believe there are so many power-crazed ****heads out there. what really freaks me out is that there's someone vieing to be the youngest prime minister. well, if this really cud bring down najib, that someone wud be able to assume the PM post smoothly without any obstacles. what a grand idea.

PostPosted: Fri Jul 11, 2008 6:32 am    Post subject: Malaysia's PM 'to quit in 2010' Reply with quote

I read it in BBC:

Quote:
Malaysian PM Abdullah Badawi has said he will leave office in 2010, defying pressure to step down this December.

Mr Abdullah said his deputy, Najib Razak, would take over as head of the Umno party in June 2010.

The prime minister has been under intense pressure to resign over poor election results and high fuel prices.

This pressure was heightened recently when opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim said he was poised to seize power with the help of government defectors.

But it is not only Mr Abdullah who has been the subject of bad publicity: both Mr Anwar and Mr Najib have been accused of serious misconduct.

Mr Anwar faces allegations of sodomy - a charge he has faced before. He insists the charges have been fabricated by the government.

Mr Najib, meanwhile, has denied accusations of an affair with a Mongolian woman who was then murdered in 2006.

Unfinished projects

Mr Abdullah, whose mandate expires in mid-2013, announced his decision to step down at a news conference.

He said he had agreed with Mr Najib to hand over power but that he first wanted the opportunity to implement reforms initiated since he took office in 2003.

"There are many things and programmes I want to achieve before I hand over and I hope that Najib will continue as my deputy in carrying this out," he said, flanked by Mr Najib and Umno officials.

He said he was confident that Mr Najib would "lead the party well".

Mr Najib pledged his support for the prime minister and urged party members to back his re-election as leader in December.

Mr Najib said that the announcement marked the start of an orderly transition of power.

Najib is going to be next PM? Lovely [/sarcasm] I heard Muhyiddin would be a better bet...But I'm not that familiar with local politics, what do you think?

More drama. Blegh

Quote:
KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will never become Prime Minister, former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said.

Writing in his blog chedet.com, Dr Mahathir predicted that more accusations would be thrown at Najib to put him down until he would be deemed unfit to serve as Deputy Prime Minister.

Someone who is considered more loyal to Datuk Seri Abdullah Badawi will be replacing him (Najib). However, the replacement candidate will not take over the top post in 2010 as he is inexperienced.

Abdullah will be more than willing to remain in the post until the 13th general election, wrote Dr Mahathir.

He also wrote that Abdullah did not practise what he preached when he gathered Umno division leaders and told them not to challenge him for the presidency.

As usual, as in Umno administration under Abdullah, when a directive is given to obstruct an action, the president does not see himself subjected to it, he said, adding that Najib would be assured that there would be no challengers for his job.

well, i'd say what Tun tried to put forth is that someone else is gonna take over the PM post, not najib. nobody knows what cud be happening rite now until june 2010. anythg is possible in this transitional period. and im DAMN sure the transition wud hav our mouths gaping wide cuz nobody wud hav expected that 'that someone' who dreams of becoming the youngest prime minister wud be assuming the post in the end.

who knows, rite?
