Hey there guys...
I'm considering shifting our OG forum to a new place, at phpbb, we are currently using bizhat hosting. So what do you guys think? Phpbb has more features, I've used it at another forum, so I would think it's a better place.
My problem now is shifting the threads from here to the new forum. We may lose some, if not ALL, of the posts from this forum. I'm still trying to figure out how to shift them to the new forum.
So do tell me what you think before I set up the new forum.
Thanks _________________ ~music pours on mortals her magnificent disdain~ |

Actually i feel quite good for this forum. Never think that want to change.
But "dare to be different", why not?
Since Miss Admin say that Phpbb has more features, i'm ok if we want to upgrade our forum.

I'm now researching how to switch the threads from this forum to the new one. When I've more information I'll post here. Also, if you have any ideas on how we can shift the information from here to there, I'd really appreciate it. We are now using Bizhat hosting. I'm planning to move to a phpbb forum.
Here's the test forum: http://umporchestragroup.phpbb-forum-host.com/
UPDATE:
Here's the response from the support team:

You're already using phpBB but if you want to move you need a backup of the database first.
At the bottom of your board is a link to bizhat support which, if you do a little looking around, gets you to here
http://phpbb.bizhat.com/phpbb_forum_backup.html
So, stump up $10 and you're on your way.
Then you need to buy some hosting and follow this
Knowledge Base - How to move a phpBB 2.0.x board to a new server
Then once you have the 2x board working you need to convert to phpBB3. |

^Hm as it is we can't move
1. We don't have database backup. If we were to keep all the threads here, we will need to pay to restore it.
2. The current forum is working fine as it is.
As much as I would love to move over, we will lose everything that's on this forum, unless we provide links to this old board at the new forum. Feel free to give your opinions, if there's a need, we can have a poll _________________ ~music pours on mortals her magnificent disdain~ |

well, moving always means to start over. i'm totally fine with the idea of moving even if we hav to lose some of the stuff here and start over on a new chapter... _________________ Dinosaurs Against Fossil Fuels. |

Well I think we'll wait for the others to come online, I've to check out the new site, you can click here to see the new site, it's under "renovation"
Here's a screenshot of the new site The complete board can only be viewed by members, certain sections are barred to the public.

June 21st you posted that?? any how, I've just gone through some work of setting up a new YaBB forum at the new site ive been working on. Yes, people will have to register anew (which is good if you don't like your name) and yes, you will loose threads. But, I do believe that this YaBB has way more neato features than the phpBB forums do. (I installed both to see which I liked better). Most important thing here is that I have figured out how to rearrange the default layout of the forum as well as change images and colors - which was much more difficult to do with the phpBB forum. Also - more smilies!!
edit: a thought just came to mind. Jo (or whoever has access to it) get me a copy of the forums database and i can see about merging it with the new one! _________________ Working on new OG Site. OG Members please contact the forums Admin (rowanlim) about anything you wanna see on the site. |

^Sounds great! Maybe we will get it up & running first before we steer traffic there
PS I don't have the database, last I recall, I'd to pay to get it so... _________________ ~music pours on mortals her magnificent disdain~ |

do you not have ftp access or some sort of God Mode control panel for this thing where you can look at folders and such? If you can get directory access to this forum, look for a file with a .db extension. That should be the database. Of course to merge it with the new forum, so things will have to be done. First thing being to convert the mySQL database file to a bunch of YaBB compatible text files. Of course, I bet that any converters there are out there are made to be used on a winDoze system. _________________ Working on new OG Site. ^I'll have to go through that with you later, not sure about what you're talking about
In any case, guys, feel free to sign up at the new forum here. It'll be great to have more members over there; more smileys, you can do more as a member (like post polls etc), so go on over & have a look! _________________ ~music pours on mortals her magnificent disdain~ |
