hmm.. yup
for what i learn, the muslim woman can sing in the crowd where all of them are woman..
the only man that they can sing is their husband, son, brothers or father. Which means only for their families.

Because, the basic teaching of Islam is ("there is no god accept Allah and Prophet Muhammad is his messenger")
In other word, do what the god teach according to the way of prophet Muhammad..

********************

In case of non-muslim, you are not bound to this teaching... Smile
I think you can go to the ustaz himself and talk about this face-to-face..
Just an opinion... Smile

Well I heard that that woman wants to stop ALL MUSLIM GIRLS from performing. Not just in dance, but also in choir & orchestra. That's CRAZY. Why on earth would they do that? Even UIA & USIM had female singers & performers...our uni is a TECHNICAL uni & we are going backward compared to ISLAMIC uni Mad

sheesh..i know EXACTLY who is responsible for enforcing these ridiculous rules..yea make that two of them, nutters. If they had it their way, girls cant even play sports!yea thats what HE WHO MUST NOT BE NAMED(not voldermort of course) said in my class.huhuh..

About girls singing, personally I dont see a problem on why they shouldnt. But it is a heck of a problem, when the girls involved in performing/singing on stage are seen wearing revealing, tight dresses or scantily-clad with low cleavage outfits as it is being interpreted as either provocative or seductive.Either way,it is undoubtedly deemed inappropriate as a public university student

^I myself would never agree to letting any girls, regardless of race or religion to dress scantily onstage, but our girls are not doing that! As I've said, if I believed in God, I'd say that these girls' talents are a gift from God. Who are they to stop them from sharing their gift with others? It's not like they have dark intentions to perform for others right? I'd stuff that in their faces if they TRY to stop our Muslim girls from performing. Evil or Very Mad

rowanlim,true..muslim girls are allowed to sing provided they abide to the ways of a devout muslim, which is no revealing attire and demonstrates no provocative or seductive gestures.(hip-shaking etc).I mean this is how I see it but still the fact remains that in Islam it is discouraged for muslim girls/women to be involved in the act of entertaining.Let alone in front of a live audience because they are not encouraged to deliberately draw public attention to themselves.

All in all I think muslim girls in OG have a chance remain as performers.I mean,a talent in music is a gift from God nevertheless.right?

^Yeh. But then again, other universities aren't so strict in this matter...I mean, USIM also had girl singers! I'm like...baffled by our uni's manner about this...It's like unfair for a bunch of sodding old farts to want to be COMFORTABLE at the performances at the boredom & disappointment of others.

I REALLY AM WONDERING!!!!!

Will a MAN's voice make the women lust after him?? Do we need to stop MEN from singing??? Yeah maybe we shud all revert to using sign language...or maybe learn and take a cue from Charlie Chaplin, without a single word coming outta his mouth, he could still make us LAUGH OUR HEADS OFF..

A bunch of sad dumb***..
