Hi guys, I had an idea: what if UMP organized an Acoustic Music Competition? Something internal, because I was surfing online to look for local music competitions, but there was virtually none. So what do you guys think?

FORMAT:

1. Participants are students at local IPTA
2. Hosted at UMP, probably at the end of the sem.
3. We can do it either annually or maybe every 2/4 years.
4. Each uni can send only 1 team.
5. Each team must perform instrumental music, maybe 2-3 songs, one song is a compulsory song.
6. They can view sheet music :p
7. Each team has 2-10 people.
8. Judging will be by experienced musicians (IMO)

This is just a rough idea. So what do you guys think?

good idea. But to realise it, i think there is a long way to go.
Anyway, I'm sure u can make it........

hmm,very ambitious..but the question would be the budget..Do u think you'll be able to convince our uni (J***A) to allocate funds to support this program or even ALLOW it at all?and to appeal to other unis you need really attractive prizes.Which brings me to my first point again,budget.hope you can thin of sumthin(sponsors etc)

^Yeah I was thinking about that too...I mean there will be a participant fee, but the question I also is whether J***A will support this idea. I'm not talking about band music, I think that would DEFINITELY score a NO from them...I'm thinking of acoustic music, ie. instrumental versions of popular songs. Money certainly sings Rolling Eyes

That's a very good idea. But i'm thinking one question now... u know that last time our university decide to have a program call "battle of the band", but lastly banned by "THEM". UMP lots of rule la....
My suggestion is Acoustic Music Competition among UMP student as a starting point of this IPTA Acoustic Music Competition

Well,true that band music will definitely score a big NO-NO,but even if its just acoustic music.. i doubt it will be any more possible to gain support within the staff of Unit Aktiviti.But you could still try,who knows..but its a better bet if you can get your 'penasihat' to agree and back you up on this.Then things would be fairly easier with him helping out i think.Just my personal opinion.I mean you never know your chances unless you bring it up to your 'penasihat' and ask him what he thinks.

Im agree with lulu...its kinda a little too ambitious... but then again...with the status of UMP orchestra now here + its acoustic music...its not impossible for us to do that Wink

maybe not so soon la...I think might need one more year for agreement + preparation...NOT 1 sem. Neutral

Idea is great...Just need lots of effort...perhaps its our juniors' task lerrr~ Cool

^Yup I think this will not be done in our term :p

We will need to do some research, about how we can go about with this plan...prepare a kick-*** proposal with everything in place & no loose threads...

My idea of the objectives:

1. To stimulate music creativity & talent: when we do acoustic covers of popular music, it shows how well we combine different elements to make it work without techno-help.

2. To encourage teamworking: this was pretty apparent at MAKUM, we all had to work together & to know what the other groupmates will do.

Yeah, i support this idea too... but step by step la... slow slow... We can join MAKUM this year already is a big improvement for OG. Laughing

Yeah because I was searching for music competitions, I wanted to see if there was any we could join, but there was seriously virtually none. Sigh. Lots of research needed. We also need to build good rapport with the admin. If we have support, it will be much easier Wink

Talking on it, brings imagination beautifies us unconditionally and drift us to wanting for it so eagerly. This idea, Jo Ann, is a good idea but with many things you would need to consider, though it looks simply on the surface for performers to come and perform 2-3 songs.

A plan like this could work. Don't think about the negative parts, budget or whatever, it will be the concern later on. Prepare proposal, run through it, send out letter to Orchestra Club in other local University to get their feedback (Approach them for their willingness to participate if the plan was to be succeeded; send out a survey what other Uni's need, for e.g. musical instruments. Always ensure them that accommodation and food (very important) are provided adequately, no shortage). This is your first mission. Not for approval but feedback from other Universities, these either positive or negative feedbacks, you can use it as a solid evidence to Unit Aktiviti that it will gain excellent respond from other Universities even before the proposal is done and submitted.

Try it, who knows! Your orchestra teams are your babies. I am sure your babies who think far wanting this to happen is based on efforts. This is a suggestion for the first approach for your idea. Wait and see the results. I can only submit the second step. Hehe.. All the best ya.

Any other suggestions? Like how long to run the competition etc?
