Well since this sem (07/08 ) is reaching its end, I've 3 pressing questions:

1. I'm sorry to say that our tutors, Wei Yang & Grace, will not be able to teach us as they are going to further their studies. So one question pops in my mind, a worrying one: Who will train the OG? We will need someone to handle the strings as well as the wind sections. For strings, we could take a UMP bus down to Taman Budaya & train with Khoo's Music School. I believe that they also teach viola, cello & double bass there. But for winds, I've no definite, clear-cut solution. My plan now is to scout for schools in Kuantan, MGS being my first target, to let our wind members train with them. This is only dealing with finding a tutor. We have yet to discuss the logistics (booking the bus, etc).

2. Mdm Wong will still teach us theory in the next sem, but now we have to plan the classes. She's only free from 10am-1pm, I'm predicting new members joining our ranks from the juniors...even some UMP students now are planning to join next sem. So how do we arrange the classes? The current batch will continue to learn Grade 2, but I'm thinking about the NEW students. Same policy applies, they will have to take the Grade 1 ABRSM exam too...but my brain's scrambling to plan the class schedule.

3. Just to add, Wei Yang is also our drum tutor, but since he won't be around next sem, we will need a drum tutor. I'm planning to ask Mr.Asma, the professional drummer to help out if possible, although there's a slim possibility he'll be able to commit since he IS a professional tutor. Next option would be to hit Yamaha Music School & enquire about drum tutor...I'm not too worried about guitar, Mr.Kent is great, I only hope that we can get more students to join his class. We would have to promote the guitar section with more ferocity next sem.

So please contribute ideas as to how we can manage our OG classes next sem & for the future. I don't want the classes to end. It HAS to continue. Thanks

About the tutor, is't possible that we look for someone who is a orchestra tutor in other IPTA? Because since our target is to be a orchestra, then should get a Orchestra Tutor.

About the theory class. I don't think we can teach the Grade one, if we can do that, we already did that this sem. I'm thinking to combine the current 2 groups into one, then open a new group for Grade 1.

1. Hm that will be an issue. Think about it. If you're NOW an OG member. then YOU had to pay RM8 for every theory class (and many people were, still ARE, reluctant with that idea), and then in the new sem, OH LOOK, THE JUNIORS DON'T HAVE TO PAY. Even if we charged the juniors RM8 for the class, I'd feel we're cheating them. I want it to be FAIR & EQUAL TREATMENT for all. So either we have to ask Mdm Wong if she can spare more time, or we'll have to combine the groups. That's my idea. If there are other ideas, do post here.

2. About the practical classes, I'd love to get them to come here too, but again, the question is to HOW TO GET PEOPLE TO COME HERE & TRAIN US? Money is an issue. Adult professional tutors may not warm to the idea of being paid less than what they'd get outside.

3. @Kelvin: Hm orchestra tutor? Do you know that until NOW, I don't see the rationale in that. It probably would work if our members can ALREADY play music. Sad fact is, most of them still can't. IMO, I want to focus on developing their skills. You can't develop an orchestra when a violinist doesn't even know how to hold the bow correctly, or a trumpeter still can't play the simple notes. I will try to search anyway, we will need all the help we can get.

What a dilemma. I feel awful Sad

ok...
god grief.. I've been thinkin bout dis too as well..
The most important thingy we all must pray... for a grand miracle blessed from the skies of heaven and beyond without failing to do so for each minute to happen... (haha juz kiddin)

Alrite, let's get to the point... Tutors has been a problem since 2nd sem...
and it's been ongoing up till now.. well.. basically we were promised to have tutors of our own and the Uni will provide the payments...
we waited...
and waited...
waited agein...
No tutors... so we (mainly the president.. search for tutors) we got them and too bad... they will have to stop teaching in the future...
About theory classes... well En.Zaki helped us out finding a tutor.. den again the Uni won't provide the money for that....

Let's not see this as a grand problem that has no solution...

I think:

1) We can try ask Mr. Zaki for help again...
2) Well, going to Khoo's Academy by bus is worth a try... (learning music with all the other kids would be cool i guess.
3) Theory class... 10am-11am = grade 1 & 11am-12pm = grade 2?
4) Let's hope for a miracle that next semester... there will be a grade 9 violinist from the 1st year students...

1. I will ask him, but honestly, we got the tutors by OURSELVES.

2. I will try to work something out, I just need a letter from the unit requesting to share the venue with the outside students, the class will be free.

3. That's 1 idea. We have to consider about practical class. It may clash if we are going to have the string section going out to Taman Budaya for classes...I'll talk to Mdm Wong, I'll try to find a suitable time/day that WON'T clash...I'd REALLY like some suggestions here...

4. We still have to plan for the wind section's future.

How glum. Sad

for theory, i oso tink combine G1 and G2 in 1 hour then new members in another hour
jo ann's idea to combine with school learning together wont work i tink...no school will be willing to do that for sure...we have to find our own...actually kelvin's idea bout finding someone who handle orchestra kind of make sense although its true that we cant even cope with basics...but orchestra is the target...

Wink
sorry for the late reply..
i totally forgotten bout this website lately c0z i've been too bz...

i think goin d0wn to MGS would be a BAD idea...
yea previously MGS was my school but something went totally wrong this year so it's not really a good time to 'ganggu' them rite now... hahahha~~ there's some complications going on down there and the teachers are not that friendly either... so my advice is to NOT g0 down to MGS.... hahaha~~

But i was thinking if the strings section will be coming d0wn to Khoo Academy why not the wind section too?
I may be there because m0st probably i will be staying f0r form 6.... which is BAD....hahaha~~

Oh you will be there? Then that's great. If that's the case, it'd be easier to manage the bus etc. I think we'd have to plan the theory classes too then Rolling Eyes Wink

Thanks for dropping by, shepard
